Suite of illustrations in print for BBC Science Focus feature “Could your memory be hacked?" By Dr Lucy Maddox. Research suggests that your recollections aren’t just worryingly fallible, they’re also surprisingly malleable. So could someone plant a false memory in your mind?
Brief descriptions...
Lead illustration / GIF - Introducing the subject. An old couple is seated, talking over steaming cups of coffee. The windows of the diner flash with their respective memories as film frames on the day he proposed.
Illustration 2 - (first spread in print) Low angle. The man looks at his ring, which triggers the ‘gist’ of his proposal memory. Steam from coffee plays out the proposal before his eyes where he recalls having an afro and going on bended knee.
Illustration 3 - (spread two in print) High angle. We see the couple pull together the elements of their memory. Their full movie as it were. Sight, sound, taste, and smell. Sight (photos) , sound (jukebox emits ethereal musical score which crosses an ethereal reel) , smell and taste (they drink wine as per the actual occasion pictured.)
